When water is added, cement particles hydrate, leading to the
formation of hydrated calcium silicates, aluminates, and calcium
hydroxide. The Pozzolan particles dissolve and a reaction takes place
between the calcium hydroxide and the reactive silica from Pozzolan.

Mixing Pozzolan with Portland cement promotes a better and more
stable bonding, while it also fills the voids between the particles. This
results in a mixture which becomes denser, stronger, and more
durable.
